How do I make my new Mossberg 590 more suitable for hunting?

Ok my father just went out and bought me a mossberg 590. I know its not that great for hunting pheasant. However, I dont have the money to purchase another and it was a gift so i will do the best i can with what i have. I realize it does not have an adjustable choke and it is mainly used for security and defense purposes. So given the situation im in, how can i make it most suitable for hunting pheasant?
